Tommy Lasorda has added to the legend by managing
the 2000 Olympic baseball team to a gold medal in Sydney. Tommy currently
serves as the Vice President for the Dodgers after retiring from his managerial
duties on July 29, 1996 after 20 seasons as Dodger manager. He finished
his managerial career with a 1,559-1,439 record, the 13th greatest victory
total for a major league manager in history.
He has worked nearly 50 years in the Dodger organization as player, scout, minor league manager, Dodger coach, Dodger manager and now Vice President. Lasorda led his Dodger teams to two World Championships, four National League pennants, and has been atop the Western Division eight different seasons. He has won numerous awards, including Minor League Manager of the Year award by The Sporting News. He was named Manager of the Year by United Press International and by Associated Press. |
